Occupational Studies Student Assistant Program

Real Property & Facilities Management Group (RP&FM) is responsible for the administration and daily operations of 55 major and 113 ancillary buildings comprising over 20 million square feet and totaling approximately $7.7 billion in assets.  The portfolio includes the Empire State Plaza Complex and the Harriman Office Campus as well as buildings in downtown Albany and across the State.  Annually RP&FM serves approximately 30,000 tenants and thousands of visitors statewide. 

Real Property & Facilities Management provides a safe, comfortable, and functional working environment for employees of our tenant agencies and visitors to our facilities.  RP&FM provides and maintains all essential building operations, including lighting, custodial services, routine and preventive maintenance, grounds and landscaping care, snow removal and general facility upkeep.  In addition, Real Property & Facilities Management staff provide security and building access for tenants, visitors, and the public, Utilities Management services, including maintenance of HVAC systems and implementation of statewide energy management and conservation measures, and provision and maintenance of parking garages, parking lots, and parking permits for employees and visitors. 

As stewards of the State’s property, it is our responsibility to provide efficient and functional environments; prolong the useful life of buildings and building systems; and continually renew the State’s physical assets. 

Locations: Empire State Plaza and Harriman State Campus

Duties:

• Lubricate machinery in the boiler, chiller, pump, and mechanical equipment rooms according to the schedule
• Conduct rounds in the Utility plants taking pressures and temperatures on the operating equipment

Duties:

• Build, repair, and install such items as counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, windows, building framework, roofs, ceiling and floor tiles and trim while following verbal or written instructions utilizing the tools of the carpentry trade and following standard carpentry techniques according to NYS Building Codes

Duties:

• Perform all phases of plumbing installation/construction, alterations and repairs of pipe fittings, equipment and fixtures of domestic water, hydronic heating and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes including landscape irrigation systems
• Troubleshoot, replacement and maintenance of plumbing fixtures, piping and related devices

Duties:

• Performs routine tasks in the repair, maintenance, and servicing of automotive and mechanical equipment
• Performs preventive maintenance inspections of vehicles and equipment following preventive maintenance schedules to ensure safe and trouble-free performance
