Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs

As the OGS Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs, Robinson Hernandez is responsible for leading OGS’s key external-facing portfolio, which includes Communications, the Media Services Center, Special Events & Visitor Services, and Intergovernmental & Community Affairs. As a member of the Commissioner’s Cabinet, he will translate the agency’s Strategic Plan into specific objectives and manage the operations of this complex division to advance the agency’s mission. 

Robinson has more than 25 years of experience working at the intersection of business and government. Before joining OGS, he worked at NYSERDA, where he set the strategic vision for their innovation program in power generation and energy storage. There, he guided research and development initiatives, ensuring the program aligned with New York State’s ambitious clean energy goals.

Previously, he worked with Company Ventures, launching the Urban Tech Hub, a one-of-a-kind private-public partnership and ecosystem that supports businesses seeking to address NYC’s most pressing urban challenges. Robinson also served as an Executive Director in the Mayor’s Office and as Deputy Commissioner of Small Business Services for NYC, where he led a mayoral task force on regulatory reform and economic development, changing how the City of New York interacts with small business owners. Throughout his career, he has held several roles within NYC government, including serving as Special Advisor to the Commissioner of the Department of Buildings and as a Senior Project Manager at the Mayor’s Office of Industrial and Manufacturing Businesses.

Robinson received his BS from Boston College and a master’s degree in urban planning from New York University.
