About the Reconnect the Empire State Plaza Project
Governor Kathy Hochul's Championing Albany's Potential initiative is bringing $400 million in new investment to Downtown Albany. This includes the Downtown Albany Strategy, led by Empire State Development, to create a long-term vision for the Downtown Albany area.
As part of this work, the New York State Office of General Services (OGS) is leading the Reconnect the Empire State Plaza project. This project is looking at ways to remove barriers between the Plaza and its surrounding neighborhoods by:
- Making the Plaza more physically accessible and inviting
- Creating inclusive programs and events
- Reimagining and repurposing spaces
- Improving signs and wayfinding
- Building community partnerships
Our goal is to transform the Empire State Plaza into a center for community connection, cultural vibrancy, historical memory, and economic growth in Downtown Albany.
The work of the Reconnect the Empire State Plaza project will result in the development of an action plan to integrate the Empire State Plaza into the broader economic and community development efforts in Downtown Albany.
