The New York State Office of General Services (OGS) will conduct a live auction of five airplanes and miscellaneous aviation parts declared surplus property by Farmingdale State College and four turbine engines on Tuesday, April 23. The auction will begin at 11 a.m., with registration and auction preview starting at 8:30 a.m., at the college’s Aviation Center, located at Republic Airport, 885 Broadhollow Road in Farmingdale, Long Island.

The planes being auctioned are:

  • 1977 Cessna 152 Registration/Tail # N757AA
  • 1978 Cessna 172N Registration/Tail # N1517E
  • 1977 Cessna 152 Registration/Tail # N25582
  • 1978 Cessna 152 Registration/Tail # N67856
  • 1976 Cessna 172M Registration/Tail # N73334

Additional details, including images of the planes, the number of hours on the airframes, engines, and propellers, as well as the total number hours between overhauls to the engines and propellers are available in the online auction catalog at www.nysstore.com.

The majority of the proceeds generated from the sale of the planes will be reinvested in the SUNY system, and proceeds from the four turbine engines will go into the State’s general fund.

The airplanes and their aircraft maintenance record log books will be made available for inspection by appointment between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Appointments may be made by contacting Farmingdale State College Aviation Center Director of Maintenance Daniel Franco at (631) 794-6458.

A government-issued form of identification (e.g. driver’s license) is required to gain access to the Aviation Center for inspections and to attend the auction.

Four overhauled Turbomeca (DBA Safran) Astazou IVC2 industrial turbine engines will also be sold. Each engine comes with a log book and a parts manual.

Prior to the auction, the industrial turbine engines will be available for inspection by appointment at the OGS Consolidated Warehouse & Distribution Center at 101 Wilshire Boulevard in Brentwood, Long Island. An inspection can be scheduled by contacting Warehouse Supervisor Kenneth Hetner at (631) 243-6790.

The auction site at Republic Airport will be open for registration at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the auction, April 23, but it is strongly recommended that interested buyers schedule an appointment for a thorough review of the airplanes and turbine engines before that date.

Farmingdale State College is the only school in the State University of New York system that offers four-year degree programs in aviation. OGS provides essential support services for the operations of state government, including the disposal of state surplus equipment, vehicles, and real estate.
