Definitions
Engine Block Heater: an electric heater that heats the engine of a vehicle to ease starting in cold weather.
Specifications
It is recommended that all diesel-fueled vehicles include engine block heaters or other warming technologies to reduce fuel consumption, decrease pollution, extend the engine life, and create reliability with cold-start operation. The engine block heater shall be UL approved (Underwriters Laboratory Inc.), and sized and installed as per the manufacturer's recommendations.
For diesel-fueled vehicles that were purchased prior to this recommendation, please refer to the vehicle manufacturer for retrofits.
