Greening Procurement
In FY21-22, $286 million were spent on green products and services. The state's green purchasing program also won another national award.
Reducing Emissions
5.38 trillion BTUs of energy-saving projects are completed or underway as part of the New York Power Authorities BuildSmart 2025 program.
Waste
Affected Entities reported a 50% increase in amount of organic material composted, including food scraps.
GreenNY Council
Governor Kathy Hochul signed the nation-leading Executive Order 22 to accelerate efforts to make State operations more sustainable. The Order formally established the GreenNY Council to carry out the Order's goals and directives. A few of the many directives and goals in the Order are to: create green purchasing specifications; write templates and guidance for Affected Entities to use on waste reduction, the electric vehicle fleet transition, and reducing embodied carbon in buildings; and establishing pathways to cut greenhouse gas emissions of Affected Entities.
