Gary Yaple leads the Division of Real Estate, providing a comprehensive suite of real estate services facilitated by more than 600 state employees in four major units: Real Property and Facilities Management (RPFM), Leasing Services, State Assets and Land Management (SALM), and Administrative Services. These services include the maintenance and operation of 20 million square feet of improved real property, the negotiation and administration of over 400 active lease agreements, the disposal of state-owned property, the protection and permitting of state lands underwater, as well as maintaining data and recruiting initiatives to meet program goals.
Gary comes to OGS from the NYS Division of Military and Naval Affairs where he served as the Director of Facilities Management and Engineering for eight years. Among Gary’s professional accomplishments are his acquisition of federal and state funding to support multiple large-scale projects, and the oversight of the addition-alteration of the Jamaica Armory in Queens for $129 million as well as the design and award of the Lexington Avenue Armory addition-alteration at over $140 million.
Gary is a retired Brigadier General with more than three decades of executive-level leadership and supervisory positions leading complex organizations within the state, national, and global environments. He brings his expertise in training, mentoring, motivating, and leading cross-functional teams to help OGS meet its strategic initiatives. Gary earned a BS in Economics and Management Science from the State University of New York at Cortland where he also received his military Army Commission through the Reserve Officers Training Corps in 1987. He earned his Master’s in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in Carlisle, PA.
