Charles Bible was born in Waco, Texas but moved to New York to study art. He studied Fine Arts at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and received a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree from Queens College in 1976.
Funny is part of a poster series Bible created in 1965 depicting Black heroes. Together, the three series of works amounted to twenty-two posters. Alongside his poster series, Bible also illustrated for books including Brooklyn Story (1970), Spin a Soft Black Song (1971), and illustrated and wrote his own poetry in, Eating at the Y (1974).
