The OGS Bureau of Land Management is the descendant of a long history in the management of New York State's publicly-owned lands dating back nearly four centuries to when the Dutch West India Company created the Surveyor General's Office in 1642. As such, OGS holds a large collection of both current and historic records that are available for view by educators, researchers or other interested parties.
Listed below is a sample of items in this collection:
- Maps from the Secretary of State's Office, late 1700s to mid-1800s
- Minutes of the Commissioners of the Land Office and Land Board, 1784-1959
- Lands Under Water Application Survey Maps, 1786-present
- Lands Under Water Index Maps, 1900-present
- Card Index of Land Sales* for both state and private land, 1650s-present
- Abandoned canal maps
- Transfer of jurisdiction maps
- 1829 Surveyor General's Atlas of Patents
- State-owned land inventory, deeds and maps
